Chess

Chess

The game of chess is often described as problem solving at its finest. Chess improves concentration, improves your memory, can raise your IQ, teaches planning and foresight, helps with strategic thinking, improves your attention span, and improves reading skills.

At Holy Family College, we have a close chess community comprised of players who are eager to improve their skills and learn new techniques each week. We are affiliated with the Durban and Districts School Chess Association and participate in inter-school tournaments as well as district trials throughout the year.

Not only are the learners excited to participate in an activity that challenges them, it has also encouraged teamwork and participation, and helped to strengthen the school spirit. At the end of each term, the best players from each school house are chosen to represent their house and gain points in inter-house tournaments.
