Environment Club

Holy Family College is committed to “saving the planet” and our learners are encouraged to be involved in recycling and keeping our school litter-free. We have a set of recycling bins on campus supplied by WILDLANDS, where we collect newspaper, plastic, cans and mixed paper. Each classroom has a big cardboard box where off-cuts of paper and cardboard are collected so the learners are being made aware of recycling all day long. The children bring recycling items from home and know how to separate it correctly into the colourful bins in our recycling area. WILDLANDS come every second week to collect and most of our bins are full to the brim!

Our enthusiastic extra-mural  group of Environment Elves is called ” The Green Team”. We celebrate important days on the environment calendar like: World Whale Day, World Turtle Day, Water Week and World Earth Day. The learners make posters, work in the school garden (weeding and planting), we collected 5-litre bottles of water to help with the Western Cape drought, we go on hikes, plant a tree on Arbor Day, have a stand at the Durban Exhibition Centre Sustainable Living Expo, a fashion show of recycled clothing, coastal cleanup as well as presentations by environmental speakers.

Let’s REDUCE, REUSE  and RECYCLE! Join us at Holy Family College and let’s save our Earth together!!
