Holy Family College Durban is trending, with the introduction of STEAM Education and taking learning to the next level, enabling our children through a well-rounded learning philosophy, which encourages creativity and innovation. We are happy to say that our entire campus is networked as a LAN system. In the Primary School we are in the process of establishing of our STEAM LAB. Our High School learners in Grade 8 and 9 have compulsory Computer Literacy which will incorporate the basic level of coding, programming, web design etc.
STEAM is an acronym that refers to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics. We are looking forward to helping our learners enhance their critical thinking skills and recognize the intersection of Art, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Furthermore, the goal of STEAM is to empower our teachers to employ project-based learning that crosses each of the five disciplines and fosters an inclusive learning environment in which all learners are able to engage and contribute. Some of the benefits of teaching STEAM education are:
✅ Gives all learners hands-on learning experience
✅ Shows them a different way to value Arts
✅ Exposes learners to the Creative process
✅ Encourages learners to explore STEAM fields
✅ Offers meaningful collaboration
✅ Increases critical thinking
Our teachers will be undertaking a short course that will cover the following STEAM teaching and learning programme viz:
1️⃣ The robotics and coding Curriculum in South Africa.
2️⃣ Problem solving by applying computational thinking principles.
3️⃣ Building your first robot and making it navigate.
Not only does a STEAM framework teach learners how to think critically, problem solve and use creativity, it prepares our learners to work in fields that are poised.
