During the Easter Holidays Holy Family College Grade 11 learner, Ethan Firmin, took part in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Athletics Championships. Ethan recently made the decision to give up Club football and pursue Athletics. Due to COVID Ethan was only able to begin training with his team in October 2020. Ethan runs for Aspire Athletic Academy under Coach Lux Gordon. After only 6 months of training Ethan ran in the KZNA champs.
On Friday Ethan ran the 100m heat in the pouring rain. Unfortunately he produced his worst time and did not qualify for the final. Like all sport he has good days and bad. On Sunday Ethan ran the 400m heat. It was only the 2nd time Ethan has run a 400m and was pleased to be placed 6th in the finals. While Ethan did not make the KZN team this year, he is pleased with these results so early In his athletics career and knows with more training and experience he is going to be a force on the track.
“We at Holy Family College are proud of Ethan’s achievements. His commitment and dedication is evident at school as he leads the cross country team during their practice sessions every Tuesday and Thursday. Ethan is the first to arrive at the practice sessions and is always cheering his team on. His strength and stamina has enabled him to gain prime positioning in our schools athletics, as he takes the winning spot for all his races. Ethan is a good role model and passionate about his running. We know that he will attain greatness as he strives for excellence, in the years to come” says Principal, Mrs Collings.
