Arbor Day took on a whole new level of significance for the learners at our Primary School this year. On Wednesday, August 30, 2023, Mrs Mary-Anne Gleimius and Mrs Christine Scott, esteemed Ezemvelo Honorary Officers from the renowned Kenneth Stainbank Nature Reserve in Yellowwood Park, delivered a captivating talk on the vital role of trees in our environment.
Mrs Gleimius and Mrs Scott shared their expertise and knowledge about the value of trees. The duo began by explaining how trees contribute to the overall well-being of our planet, highlighting essential aspects such as oxygen production, and carbon dioxide absorption. Through interactive activities and visual aids, the officers conveyed the significance of trees to the learners, encouraging learners to recognize the numerous benefits that these mighty giants offer.
The presentation was not merely informative but also emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in tree conservation. Learners were encouraged to participate actively in tree-planting initiatives and to care for existing trees within their communities. Mrs Gleimius and Mrs Scott’s dedication to environmental education is truly commendable. Our learners now have a deeper understanding of the vital role trees play in sustaining life on Earth.”
As a symbol of their commitment to environmental conservation, the Kenneth Stainbank Honorary Officers gifted the school with an Olive Tree, specifically the false olive, a tree known for its resilience and beauty. It is the official tree symbol for Arbor Day this year.
